On February 2, 1992, Friendship House opened its doors to provide therapeutic services, structure and support for women in recovery from alcoholism and other drug addictions.  Located at 3728 Gillham Road in Kansas City's historic Hyde Park, Friendship House was established by cofounder Judith A. Janes and Carol S. Patterson.  The simple concept of serving small numbers of women in a warm, supportive home setting is central to Friendship House's success.  Here women rebuild their lives and strengthen their families by sustaining their sobriety, regaining their self-esteem and becoming financially self-sufficient.

Since its inception, the organization has served over 500 women and affected the lives of an estimated 3,000 children, family members and friends. 

Using what has proven to be a successful model, Friendship House expanded residential services for women and their children by building Catherine's Place next door in 2002.  Recovery services for women and prevention services for their children and families are provided so that we may finally break the inter-generational cycle of dependence.

What's New?

In the summer of 2009 ReDiscover purchased the properties at 3720 and 3728 Gillham Road, Kansas City, MO 64111 known as Friendship House and Catherine's Place.  As a result of this unique expansion, ReDiscover is Kansas City’s largest agency providing residential and non-residential services for women recovering from alcohol and substance abuse.  ReDiscover offers one of the few programs that allow addicted mothers to bring their children to treatment.  Friendship House is currently on a "restoration vacation" because of structural disrepair and need for renovation.  Please help us restore Friendship House so more women in recovery can be served.
