Women with Children Program

ReDiscover offers one of the few programs in Missouri that allows children to stay with the mother during recovery.  ReDiscover’s Women with Children program is one of two residential programs in the Kansas City area that accepts drug-addicted pregnant women, as well as mothers who need to bring their children with them to treatment.   For women with children and pregnant women who have substance abuse dependency, ReDiscover provides substance abuse treatment in a residential setting or outpatient program and offers childcare for the children. This treatment includes comprehensive assessment, individual and group counseling, family counseling, treatment for co-occurring disorders, case management, parenting skills, crisis support, childcare, & transportation assistance. Women without children also participate in this program. Programming occurs Monday through Friday, based on the level of the client.  Weekend programming occurs for residential clients.

"At ReDiscover we do not separate mothers from their children during rehab; we help families stay together.  Our goal is to work with the moms to replace drug abuse with positive life style changes, so that the child doesn't suffer the severe risks of living with an addict.  Addiction is frequently regarded as a choice, but we know that addiction is not that simple.  It's more than "use or don't use".  Many of these women were sexually abused as children or beaten as adults, and then they turned to street drugs to numb the pain of their own abuse and trauma.  ReDiscover helps break the cycles of fear, shame and addiction to connect these women to the resources that can save their lives."   Lori Glenski, Program Manager
